International Astronomical Union (IAU) held its 11th Latin American Regional Meeting in Pucon, a tourist site in southern Chile, from December 12 to 16. About 350 people attended the meeting, and most of them are researchers from Latin American countries (a third of them are from Chile, and two Japanese researchers including Ryusuke Ogasawara participated in the meeting). On the fourth day, December 15, they took up a topic of observational instruments including ALMA, and discussed its progress and main subjects of research, as well as availability of ALMA for researchers from Latin American countries other than Chile. In addition, Dr. Giacconi, Nobel Prize laureate in physics, gave a lecture. The picture shows the outside of the venue during lunch-break. Volcano Villarrica (about 2850 m a.s.l.) is in the distance.
