Commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Kumamoto Civil Astronomical Observatory, the 14th ALMA Public Lecture titled Universe explored by the gigantic radio telescope in the AndesEwas held at the Kumamoto Prefectural Theater. In the event, two lectures were given: ALMA, a dream telescope built in collaboration of astronomers across the worldEby Professor Tetsuo Hasegawa at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan; and The earths environment viewed from the universeEby Professor Satoshi Yamamoto at the University of Tokyo. In between these lectures, the movie titled Under the Southern CrossE(documentary movie on the construction of ALMA) was shown with live narration by Associate Professor Seiichi Sakamoto. The picture shows Prof. Yamamoto speaking about the earths value in the universe,Ewhich will be revealed by ALMA, referring to the recent results of space observation and changing global environment.
