27 Antennas at AOS

On January 14, the 6th Japanese 7-m antenna was transported to the Array Operations Site (AOS) at 5000 m asl. This brought the number of antennas at the AOS to 27.

The picture shows the ALMA antennas standing on the yellowish soil of the Atacama Desert, seen from a small hill a short distance away from the construction site. Smaller 7-m antennas, shown back right, will be a part of Atacama Compact Array (ACA), nicknamed IZAYOI, manufactured by Japan. The snow-covered mountain, shown right, is Licancabur Volcano.
