The signing ceremony for the agreement on regional support through ALMA was held at the 25th anniversary commemorative event of city administration of San Pedro de Atacama. You can see in the picture, starting from the left, Ryohei Kawabe signing the Agreement on behalf of NAOJ, Felix Mirabel on behalf of ESO (European Southern Observatory), Jorge Molina on behalf of the Chilean Region II, Eduardo Hardy on behalf of AUI (Associated Universities, Inc.) and Massimo Tarenghi, director of ALMA. On the eve of the ceremony, the legendary folklore group “Los Kjarkas” gave a great performance and the entire city of San Pedro had a big party all night long. The charango performance by a member of the group, Makoto Shishido, was really wonderful.
