The ALMA Annual External Review was jointly held by East Asia, Europe, and North America in Santiago, Chile from Oct. 23 through 28. Japan representing East Asia sent to the Review Satoshi Yamamoto (the University of Tokyo, Panel Chair), Yasushi Muraki (Konan University), and Makoto Inoue (Academia Sinica Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics) as review panel members as well as five participants from the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan. In the Review, the scientific value of ALMA and the progress of the construction were highly evaluated, and a variety of advice were provided on the early science operations that is about to start.
