From September 10 through 12, a three-day joint external review of the ALMA project was held in Santiago, Chile. From Japan, 7 people attended the meeting: Nobuyoshi Fugono (former President of the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International) and Toshinori Maihara (Professor Emeritus at Kyoto University) as external review committee members and 5 delegates from NAOJ including Director General Shoken Miyama. In the review, the scientific value of the ALMA project and the progress of the ongoing construction were highly evaluated with some advices toward successful system integration to be started in Chile.
