Memorial Ceremony for Professor Koh-Ichiro Morita

On June 22, NAOJ-Mitaka held a memorial ceremony for Professor Koh-Ichiro Morita who passed away in Santiago, Chile on May 7. The ceremony was attended by NAOJ colleagues and many others who have close relationships with Professor Morita.
The ceremony started with the speech of Masahiko Hayashi (NAOJ Director General), which was followed by the introduction of the history and achievements of Professor Morita by Tetsuo Hasegawa (Director of the NAOJ Chile Observatory), and memorial addresses by Katsuhiko Sato (NINS President) and Shoken Miyama (former NAOJ Director General). At the end of the ceremony, all attendees offered flowers in appreciation of his great contribution to astronomy and his warm and sincere personality.

The altar was decorated with white flowers forming parabola antennas on the snow-covered Andes.
