A new video on the ALMA development was released. This new version features the receiver which is a component to receive radio waves from target objects inside the antenna. In the video, you can see the manufacturing process in which various small parts are assembled into a receiver cartridge of 50 cm in height.
As suggested by its title “Part 2”, this version is a sequel to the “ALMA Receiver Development -Part 1: Receiver Mechanism”, which explains how the receiver works as a system of ALMA and shows the development of the SIS mixer as the heart of the receiver.
The unprecedented high-performance radio telescope ALMA was made by engineers with experienced craftsmanship. See how such a state-of-the-art receiver was developed by extraordinary efforts of many skilled engineers.
