Mitaka Open House Day 2011

The open house
event was held at the Mitaka Campus of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) on October 21 and 22. Although it rained on both days, the event attracted as many as 2514 people in total.

At the entrance hall of the ALMA Building, we presented poster exhibition of the ALMA Telescope,
ALMA site map
with illustrations and photos, and manually-operable
miniature models of the ALMA 12-m and 7-m antennas .

Also, a diorama of the ALMA Array Operations Site (5000 m asl) with
paper models of the 12-m antenna and transporter
was set up in the center of the entrance hall.

At the entrance, a staff member wearing a handmade
“ALMA antenna head costume”
welcomed people. Visitors enjoyed being photographed with her or wearing it by themselves.

We thank you all for visiting our open campus event 2011. We are looking forward to seeing you again next year.

Picture panels of the antennas at the AOS increasing the number from one to 20 were exhibited along the corridor on the northern part of the ALMA Building.
