Success of Antenna Driving Test

At the ALMA Operations Support Facility in Chile, the first driving test of the Japanese ACA 12-m Antenna #1 was carried out. The antenna monitor and control software jointly developed by Japan, the U.S., and Europe was pretested in Japan, and then installed on the computer system in Chile. This first test to check the communication between the ACA 12-m antenna and the computer system is very important because it determines whether various subsequent tests of the antenna and the software are possible. It was checked whether the control command from the computer system drove the antenna appropriately. The picture shows that the members of the computing development team are clapping their hands with delight when the antenna was successfully controlled at the first try.
