A total lunar eclipse was observed during the nighttime in Chile (the daytime in Japan time). We successfully took clear images of the eclipse, though clouds covered the moon in the early phases of the eclipse. The moon surface is illuminated by sunlight which reaches the moon after being refracted and scattered by the earths atmosphere.
