A total lunar eclipse took place before the dawn on December 21 in Chile (late on the afternoon of December 21 in Japan). The moon located in the upper region of Orion, which was almost upside down, turned dark red as its surface was overshadowed by Earth. In contrast, the Milky Way became more shining as the moon light dimmed.
