From April 29 to May 3 (local time in Chile), Dr. DOI Mamoru, Director General of National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) visited the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Embassy of Japan in Chile; the Chilean Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation; Joint ALMA Observatory (JAO); ASTE Telescope, and the University of Tokyo Atacama Observatory (TAO).
On April 29, Dr. Doi paid a courtesy visit to Ambassador Julio Bravo, Director of DECYTI (Division of Science, Energy, Education, Innovation and Astronomy) of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with Prof. IGUCHI Satoru, Director of NAOJ ALMA Project and Mr. WATANABE Teruyuki, Head of NAOJ Chile, and exchanged opinions about scientific research and astronomy.
On the same day, Dr. Doi paid a courtesy visit to Minister Alberto van Klaveren of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with Ambassador ITO Takako of the Embassy of Japan in Chile; Mr. SHINOYA Ryu, Chair of the Japan-Chile Friendship Parliamentary League, and Dr. GONOKAMI Makoto, President of Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN) and exchanged opinions about collaboration of scientific research and astronomy.
On April 30, Dr. Doi paid a courtesy visit to Ambassador Ito of the Embassy of Japan in Chile along with Dr. Gonokami, President of RIKEN; Prof. Iguchi, Director of NAOJ ALMA Project; Assoc. Prof. MINAMIDANI Tetsuhiro, NAOJ ASTE Project Manager, and Mr. Watanabe: Head of NAOJ Chile and exchanged opinions about collaboration of scientific research.
On the same day, Dr. Doi paid a courtesy visit to the Minister Aisén Etcheverry Escudero of the Chilean Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge, and Innovation along with Ambassador Ito of the Embassy of Japan; Dr. Gonokami, a president of RIKEN, and a group of faculties of the University of Tokyo visiting Chile for the TAO inauguration ceremony and exchanged opinions about the collaboration in a wide range of science, technology, and knowledge.
On the same day, the inauguration ceremony for TAO was held in Santiago, Chile. Dr. Doi participated the ceremony along with Prof. Iguchi, Director of NAOJ ALMA Project; Assoc. Prof. Minamidani, NAOJ ASTE Project Manager, and Mr. Watanabe, Head of NAOJ Chile.
On May 2, Dr. Doi visited ALMA observatory and ASTE Telescope located near San Pedro de Atacama in Chile.
On May 3, Dr. Doi visited TAO site located in Chajnantor, Atacama, Chile.
On the same day, Ambassador Ito of the Embassy of Japan in Chile visited TAO site located in Chajnantor, Atacama, Chile and ALMA Observatory along with Dr. Doi, Director General of NAOJ and others.
