On June 4, 2024, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs of Chile, Her Excellency Mrs. Gloria de la Fuente Gonzalez, visited NAOJ Mitaka Campus.

Undersecretary de la Fuente Gonzalez received an overview of NAOJ’s mission and operations from both NAOJ Vice Director Generals, Michitoshi Yoshida and Masao Saito.

She also had discussions about NAOJ’s contributions thus far with ALMA currently being operated in Chile, and NAOJ’s achievements in science and technology with the Director of the ALMA Project, Satoru Iguchi, and other attendees.

Afterwards, the Undersecretary and her suite visited the Advanced Technology Center and observed the ultra-precision machine workshop for the fabrication of astronomical instrumentation such as high-sensitivity sensors and ALMA receivers, and visited the 4D2U Dome Theater where they experienced a beautiful four-dimensional view of the Universe created by supercomputer simulations based on recent observational data.

Finally, the Undersecretary and her suite chatted with Chilean researchers who are engaged in research and development activities at NAOJ.
