ASJ Spring Meeting 2009

From March 24 through 27, the Astronomical Society of Japan (ASJ) held its Spring Meeting 2009 at the Osaka Prefecture University. In the afternoon of March 26, ALMA special session was presented. The session began with progress report of the ALMA project, followed by the lectures on three main scientific objectives of ALMA: formation of galaxies; evolution of the universe; and formation of the planetary system. In the session, some scientists expressed their high interest in the operations and science with ALMA. On the same day, a commemorative speech was made by Satoru Iguchi, Associate Professor at the ALMA-J Project Office, who received the ASJ Young Astronomer Award in 2008.
