Google conducts virtual tour of ALMA

The largest astronomical observatory in the world, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), has been included in the spectacular 360° panoramic views from Google’s Street View, now available on Google Maps.

A special Google device for creating panoramic images toured both the ALMA base camp located at an altitude of 2,900 meters and the Chajnantor Plateau at 5,000 meters above sea level. The device consists of a backpack with 15 panoramic lenses, two computers, and eight hours of autonomy to record the places where it circulates.
