Image of a radio telescope captured by another radio telescope

The scanning radiometer (small radio telescope), which has been developed mainly by the University of Tokyo for the purpose of measuring the spatial distribution of water vapor above the ALMA site, was completed and its operation test started in the Nobeyama Radio Observatory. The picture shows the image of the antenna of the Nobeyama Millimeter Array captured by the scanning radiometer during the operation test in the night of February 9. One pixel is equivalent to 0.5 degrees, and the strong radio field appears more whitish. The upper side of the main reflector and the quadripod (rod-like structure extending to the right direction) appear dark, as they are reflecting the cold night air.
