Prior to the celebration for the 26th anniversary of city administration of San Pedro de Atacama scheduled for November 25, various events are being held. As part of contribution to the local community, the ALMA project team conducted a star party and demonstration of a portable planetarium for local residents in San Pedro de Atacama and Toconao. These events were held for two nights in collaboration with a local university, Universidad Catolica del Norte. The picture was taken during the star party in San Pedro de Atacama. Unlike in Japan, star parties in northern Chile are rarely canceled by weather conditions due to thick clouds or rain. This raises our motivation to prepare for the events. [Photo provided by ESO]
