Last Three Japanese 7-m Antennas Arrives in Chile

The last three of twelve Japanese 7-m antennas arrived at the Port of Mejillones in northern Chile on October 17. They were
shipped from the Port of Kobe
on September 9 and arrived in Chile on schedule after one-month journey across the Pacific Ocean.

On October 18, the day after the arrival, each antenna, divided into three parts, was transported by truck to the ALMA Operations Support Facility (OSF) at 2900 m asl in cooperation with the Chilean police, and all components arrived at the OSF on October 21. These antenna parts are now being put back together at the OSF Site Erection Facility (SEF).

The picture shows a caravan of trucks passing through the desert. The main reflector, receiver cabin, and mount are carried separately by each truck.
