On Sunday, October 21, 2018, the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) gave presentations of ALMA at the Inter-University Research Institute Corporations Symposium 2018 held in Nagoya City Science Museum.
The Inter-University Research Institute Corporations Symposium is held annually with the participation of the National Institutes of Natural Sciences (NINS) where NAOJ belongs, the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), the National Institutes for the Humanities (NIHU), the Research Organization of Information and Systems (ROIS), and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Each institute sets up a booth to introduce their latest research results and researchers give interesting talks about their study.
This year’s NAOJ booth featured ALMA by presenting posters of recent remarkable scientific discoveries in a variety of areas ranging from planet forming regions to the ultra-deep field of the Universe. Also, a VR experience corner was provided using videos captured at the ALMA site in Chile. In the researchers’ talk session, Masaaki Hiramatsu, an assistant professor at the NAOJ Chile Observatory, gave a 10-minute talk about ALMA, which was brief but packed with exciting scientific results achieved with ALMA.
