ALMA/ASTE/Mopra Users' Meeting

From October 27 through 29, ALMA/ASTE/Mopra Users’ Meeting was held at the NAOJ Mitaka campus for three telescopes operated by the NAOJ Chile Observatory. Including the participants from East Asian ALMA partner regions such as Taiwan and Korea, 84 researchers joined the meeting.

ALMA/ASTE/Mopra Users’ Meeting has been held once every year to share the current status and the latest information of the telescopes among researchers, to discuss how to improve the telescope operations, and to present and discuss recent research results. This year’s meeting agenda includes: future perspectives of the ALMA operations; current status of the long-baseline test observation campaign; introduction of regional ALMA development plans of Japan, Taiwan, and Korea; and presentation of a wide range of scientific results from star formation to distant galaxies. Along with these, there was a panel discussion on the ALMA operations and future programs to make the telescope more user-friendly and scientifically productive. On the final day of the meeting, practical training using CASA (ALMA standard data analysis software) was given to postgraduate students and researchers to teach them the analysis using actual ALMA data.
